Johannes Börmann is a antisemitism expert and historian by training. He has been working for the European Commission since 2015, previously as Deputy Coordinator on combating Antisemitism and now as manager for EU funding programmes on fundamental rights, antisemitism and European remembrance. He was selected for the inaugural junior professionals' acceleration programme of the Commission, in which he participated from 2018-2020.
During his graduate degree in Jewish history at Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich, he spent an academic year as a fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He also holds a Master's in European Studies from the College of Europe in Warsaw. He is active in the largest pro-European youth movement, the Young European Federalists, formerly as the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee. He is an alumnus of the American Council on Germany's Young Leaders' Conference.
